This past Wednesday our board chair Bob Zak and our president Michael Weiner proudly presented our Report to the Community. The address outlined our key accomplishments over the past year; the outcomes achieved through United Way-funded programs in Education, Income, and Health and Wellness; our newly-completed five-year strategic plan; and a commitment to continued efforts to enhance our relevance, coalition building and accountability in the coming year.

Our accomplishments over the past 12 months include implementing a 2-year program funding cycle to improve outcome reporting and lessen operating uncertainties for funded programs; developing a School Readiness Committee that is assessing the current state of school readiness programming and developing a set of standardized school readiness indicators for children age 0-5; and transitioning day-to-day operations of Closing the Gap and Success By 6 to appropriate service providers in the community.

Michael Weiner presented an overview of the outcomes achieved through United Way-funded programs.  Through programs in Education, last year 13,158 young children were read to on a daily basis and 7,814 students improved their grade point average in school.  In the Income area, 1,113 individuals moved from shelter to stable transitional or permanent housing; 100 individuals purchased a home; and 9,503 individuals utilized free tax preparation services.  Outcomes achieved by programs in Health & Wellness include 3,105 victims of family violence completing a safety plan to reduce the risk of future violence, and 1,985 seniors securing transportation to health professionals or grocery stores.

We are proud of what we have accomplished over the past year, and we look forward to reporting on our progress over the next year as well.  We are also very aware that none of this work is possible without you – our donors, funders, agency partners, initiative partners, and all the others who give so generously of your time, talent, and financial resources.  Thank you for being a part of improving well being in our community!
